SONG OF THE SUN BY FRANCIS OF ASSISI on May 15 at the Catholic Day in Würzburg
For many people, the famous Canticle of the Sun by Francis of Assisi remains a central starting point for their ecological commitment, a unique, great poem in which Francis calls creation his brother and sister, celebrates it in its radiant beauty, and even praises illness and death as expressions of life preserved in God. A large-scale composition for countertenor, male quartet, African-Cameroonian instruments, organ, and narrator, which incorporates the statements of astrophysicist and avowed Protestant Christian Harald Lesch on central positions of Pope Francis's highly topical encyclical Laudato si'.
